North Island, New Zealand, 4-17 May 2008 - Part 1

Day 1-2 (KLIA – Auckland/ Hamilton)
We were very excited to go New Zealand for our vacation. Why would anyone not want to take time off work for a nice long holiday? Despite the protests by some persons that I shalt no name, we brought Lucas along for his first real overseas trip! Truth to be told, I was a bit worried about the 10 hours flight with Lucas in case he throws a tantrum because when he cries, he can get really loud…piercingly loud.  Only at 7 months old, he has already been to more places than I probably did in my first 12 years of life. Privilege little babe ain’t he?

However, my worries were unwarranted because he was the sweetest boy all the way there and back although he wriggled quite a bit and even managed to free himself from the zipped flap in his bassinet after he woke from his nap. Thankfully, the man next to us was awake and saw Lucas getting up in his bassinet and woke us from our slumber.

Lucas first Chinese New Year, February 6 – 8 2008 - The First Few Days

This is a sequel to our most recent post - Lucas’ first few days of CNY. Despite the hot weather, many unfamiliar faces and numerous visitations to relatives’ and friends’ homes, Lucas was sweet all the time. Although he can’t quite hold his own ang pow yet, we are sure he can hold his own next year J. Anyway, here are some photos taken during CNY.

Pulai Springs 3 December – 5 December 2007

This posting is a bit late…. okay a lot late but you know what they say, better late than never. My dear wife wrote this article so I better post it up before I let her efforts go to waste.

Lucas at 3 months old

Physical:
We thank God for his healthy growth thus far. At 3 month, he weighs 5.9kg, measuring 59 cm in height. Not a very chubby baby, but my arms are starting to tire beneath his weight!

It’s amazing to watch him grow day-by-day and week-by-week especially when we remember how tiny he was at birth.

Lucas’ First Christmas

Lucas, Tien Bin and me

Christmas 2007 was the first Christmas for Lucas. We brought him to church as a tiger in disguise and he seems to be in pretty good mood that morning (right…). More than one person actually thought that we were holding a stuffed tiger toy!

Lucas’ Full Moon Presents

Can’t remember much from his fullmoon party neither did I take any photos. So you all will just have to be content with pictures of his presents! Thank you Aunties, Uncles, Grandmas, Grandpas for his presents. His stuff now occupies more space than our stuff

The Day My House was Robbed

I have been living in my 10th Floor Condominium for the past 10 years and I always thought of it as a safe haven from a dangerous and cruel world out there. My unit has been broken into once but at that time, not much was stolen from me since I didn’t have many valuable assets.

Recently there have been a couple of cases of burglary and one happened right opposite my unit. Nothing much was stolen since the owner of that unit has already moved out. My wife then started to feel unsafe about our unit as we have acquired many valuable things since our marriage last year. She kept asking me to fix an alarm or tighten the security but I kept delaying it. I guess I never thought it would happen to us.

On Wednesday (14/11/07) I received a call from my mum as I was leaving office. She asked in a hurried voice if I had locked my door and I answered that I definitely did. I suspected that something was wrong immediately. My mum then proceeded to tell me that my unit has been unlocked and broken into.

Lucas: The early weeks

They say a baby’s face changes everyday for the first few months. It is indeed true of the saying as I look through the photos I have captured of Lucas. He is going through a “metamorphosis” and each day I look at him, he definitely looks cuter than the day before.

Life for me and my wife have totally changed because of him. We use to be able to wake up at 10 or 11 am in the morning on weekends but now we have to wake up before 8am to feed him, change his diapers and bath him. After doing all that, it’s probably already 10am and we can then clean ourselves which takes about an hour and by that time, we are starving for breakfast. So life has definitely changed and time is definitely more precious for both of us. We are slowly building a routine which helps a lot for both us and the baby.

Anyway I know many of you have been pestering me to post up more photos of Lucas, so I shall not waste your time reading all this boring ranting and get straight to the pictures!

Baby Lucas Arrives!

I was thinking to myself what would my first posting be in this blog. It should be something that is very significant and symbolize the start of something that is both exciting and yet nostalgic. I couldn’t think of anything better than to announce the birth of my first son, Lucas.

It was the 25th of September 2007 and my wife was now 39 weeks pregnant. We had our regular checkup with our doctor and figured that we could wait till 1st October which is our baby’s actual due date to have him delivered. Unfortunately things did not go our way and the doctor mention that my wife’s water bag was at a dangerous level and therefore the baby have to come out today. We were told to check in again at 3pm for them to start observation and induce birth as soon as possible.

We got home, took whatever we needed to take and informed our respective bosses that we would not be coming in for work. At 3pm we were at the hospital and my wife was immediately sent to the labour room for monitoring. My parents came to visit and said a prayer for her before they left. While she lay on her comfy bed, I was left with nothing to do but wait. Good thing I brought a lot of reading material with me to pass time.
